Group dungeons are the hardest thing to build in a browser MMORPG, which is why so few have them. A dungeon needs instancing, a party system, roles that mean something, a threat model so a tank can tank, and bosses with mechanics rather than bigger health bars. Every one of those has to work in a tab, on a machine the developer has never seen.
Duskmere has one. This page explains how it works and lists the other browser games where group content is real.
The Hollowroot Depths
Under the Old Wood, something old has been taking notes. The Hollowroot Depths is Duskmere's five-player instanced dungeon:
- You queue for it. Open the Dungeon Finder, pick tank, healer or damage, and the finder builds the party. Your band gets its own private copy of the place.
- Roles are real because threat is real. Every monster keeps a threat table for everyone hitting it. Damage builds threat, healing counts for half, and taking a monster off someone else means decisively out-threatening them, not landing one big hit. The game warns you before it flips.
- Bosses draw their attacks. Heartrot, the first boss most parties meet, telegraphs a slam: the floor lights up in a square, you get a moment to step out, and standing in it costs real hitpoints. Every fight is settled on the server, so the same slam means the same thing for everyone in the room.
- Loot is shared and rolls rarity. Dungeon drops land on one of five rarity tiers like everything else, and boss gear floors at a minimum tier.
- The party survives a disconnect. If someone drops or changes region, the group waits a minute for them instead of collapsing on the spot.
There is also the Deep Sea, which is instanced too, but you sail there rather than queue: your party gets its own private crossing, wreck island included.
The honest caveat
One dungeon. Mirage states more than fifty; Veilbound states twelve. Duskmere opened in July 2026 and the Hollowroot Depths is its first, built to prove the systems (finder, roles, threat, telegraphs) before the second one is dug. More are planned; they are not there yet. If you want a long list of instances tonight, the table below is fairer than we are.
Other browser MMORPGs with dungeons
Claims about other games are from their own sites on the day of writing.
| Game | Group content | Party size | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mirage Online Classic | States 50+ dungeons with Normal, Nightmare and Hell tiers and speedrun leaderboards | Groups | 2D; the largest dungeon count in the browser |
| Veilbound | States 12 hand-crafted instanced dungeons with parties and guilds | Parties | 3D browser, new in 2026 |
| stein.world | Dungeons and wave dungeons | Up to five | 2D pixel, cosy pace |
| Drakensang Online | Diablo-style action dungeons, solo and group | Groups | Commercially funded; check the shop |
| AdventureQuest Worlds | Instanced boss fights across 15+ years of content | Groups | Post-Flash; launcher is the main route |
| Duskmere | One five-player dungeon with a finder, roles and telegraphed bosses | Five | Ours. New and small. |
If you want depth of dungeon content today, Mirage or Veilbound have more of it. If you want a five-player dungeon with real roles in a 3D world you can open in a tab, and you do not mind being early, that is the pitch. The what is Duskmere page covers the rest of the world around it.
