A New Dawn

🌅  10 August 2026

First light breaking over the far mountain

Every world runs on something. Since the day the gates of Lightshire first opened, Duskmere has run on the same single server it launched on — faithful, hardworking, and increasingly out of breath. As of this weekend, that era is over.

Duskmere has moved

The whole game — the living world, your account, your bank vault, every gravestone and ground item — now runs on new infrastructure hosted on AWS, the same class of hardware that carries the biggest online games in the world. The move is already complete. If you've logged in today, you've already played on it.

We won't bore you with the plumbing (there is a great deal of plumbing, and we are very proud of it, and you will never have to think about it). What matters is what it does for you.

What you'll feel

  • A snappier world. Combat, movement, and everything the server decides — hits landing, loot dropping, wolves noticing you — responds faster, because the machine deciding it has far more headroom than the old one ever did.
  • Steadier under load. Busy evenings used to be when the old server sweated. The new home doesn't sweat. A crowded Lightshire plaza and an empty one should now feel exactly the same.
  • Faster updates, less downtime. Shipping a new build used to mean a manual ritual on a single machine. Now an update rolls out the moment we tag it — which means more frequent patches, shorter restarts, and fixes that reach you in minutes instead of hours.

Lightshire's plaza, ready for a bigger crowd

The bank remains open throughout. The banker did not notice the move. The banker notices nothing.

Why this matters

Here's the honest reason we did this, and it isn't nostalgia for server rooms: everything we want to build next needs more room than we had. Bigger zones, more players in one place, more creatures with actual opinions about you — every one of those plans kept bumping into the same ceiling. That ceiling is gone.

This is the least visible update we will ever ship, and it might be the most important one. Think of it as new foundations poured under a town you already live in: the streets look the same today, but now we can build up.

Also in this update

  • Your account, saves, characters, and bank contents came across untouched — if anything looks wrong, tell us on Discord and we'll dig in immediately.
  • The desktop launcher needs nothing from you; it found the new home on its own.
  • And a teaser, since you read this far: those bigger zones we mentioned aren't hypothetical. Somewhere beyond the edge of the current chart, new land is being raised. The new foundations are for something. More soon.
