⚔️  30 October 2026  ·  Duskmere v1.0.55

A party of five on the rim of Cinderfell, the sky on fire behind them

For as long as Duskmere has existed, your character has been a chunky little figure doing its best. That figure has now retired. On 30 October 2026 everyone in the world woke up with a spine, cheekbones and a much better tailor.

In short

Duskmere 1.0.55 went live on 30 October 2026. What changed:

  • Every Duskmere player now has a new realistic body, male or female, in place of the old character model.
  • Characters went from 30 animations to 69, covering combat, riding, jumping and everyday work.
  • All 12 armour sets, all 5 capes and the starter mage set were rebuilt for both bodies, 72 pieces per body.
  • Fights look different: weapons alternate between 2 or 3 swings, and blows now draw a flinch, stagger, block, parry or dodge.
  • 15 NPC looks moved to the new bodies, covering 54 people placed around the world.
  • New players can choose from 8 faces, 9 eye colours, 6 brow styles and 8 hair styles.
  • Three passive talents gained ranks: Arcane Reserves now goes to 5, and Meditation and Inner Light go to 4.

New bodies for everyone

Every Duskmere character now stands on a new realistic body, male or female, with real proportions, hands and faces. You keep everything that made your character yours: your levels, your gear, your gender, your skin tone, your hair colour and your clothes. Your hair moves to the closest of eight new styles, from Tousled to Long.

The same plaza, the same crowd, the same armour. Those are our test accounts, and yes, they were wearing that on purpose.

Starter clothes were remade as well: fitted tunics, trousers, skirts and boots, with the weave, stitching and belts now part of the clothing itself.

Design your adventurer

Duskmere's "Design your adventurer" screen now works on the new body. New players choose a build, then 7 skin tones, 8 faces, 9 eye colours, 6 brow styles, 8 hair styles and 9 hair colours, plus their tunic, trousers or skirt, and boots.

If you already have a character, you can't reopen this screen just yet. Your turn comes with character creation (see below).

Twelve armour sets, rebuilt from the ground up

Every piece of armour in Duskmere was rebuilt for the new bodies, 72 garments for each body. That covers the 4 plate sets, the 4 hide sets, the 4 cloth sets, 5 capes and the starter mage set. Nothing you own changes its stats, and nothing needs replacing. It just finally fits.

Plate is Bronze, Iron, Duskiron and Emberforged: hammered shoulders, banded waists, and a sun on the chest of anyone who has earned Duskiron.

Hide is Leather, Wolfhide, Barkhide and Cinderhide. Wolfhide keeps its fur trim, Barkhide looks peeled from something that objected, and Cinderhide wears bone charms and glowing coals.

Cloth is Silk, Wightweave, Gloomsilk and Ashweave. The robes are proper tailoring now, tied at the waist and cut to the knee, with hoods and mantles. Wightweave's hems are torn like a shroud, and its shins are wrapped. We did not ask where it has been.

Capes, and somewhere to put your sword

Duskmere's five capes (Wool, Silk, Wightweave, Gloomsilk and Ashweave) now hang from the shoulders of both bodies and move with them. Your gear also behaves like gear: a hand closes around what it holds, and after 3 seconds out of use your weapon goes onto your back, with your shield slung beside it.

Embers that actually glow

Duskmere's top-tier sets now glow for real. Emberforged's vents, Cinderhide's coals and Ashweave's scorched seams all burn with their own light, so they stand out in the dark instead of being painted orange. Mirkwood is the place to show them off.

A fight is a fight now

Duskmere's fights have a real set of moves for the first time, without any change to how much anything hits for. Swords and axes rotate through 3 swings, fists through 3 punches, and daggers and greatswords through 2. Between swings your character holds a guard stance suited to what they're carrying, instead of freezing at the end of the last swing.

Blows land visibly, too. A hit draws a flinch, and one worth 20% of your maximum health draws a stagger. A miss becomes a block if you carry a shield, a parry if you carry a greatsword, and a dodge otherwise. Every ability has its own animation, and you see other players' swings and abilities properly as well. Hits now land on the blow, so the number appears when the blade arrives, not at the wind-up.

When a character dies, it falls, and it stays down.

The highwayman had a pouch. The pouch did not save him.

Riding, jumping and the rest

Duskmere riders now sit a horse properly, with a riding animation of their own made for the new bodies: legs around the barrel, hands on the reins, and a little breathing to keep it honest. Jumps got the same care: a running jump now has its own animation and lands straight back into your stride.

The horse has not changed. Yes, it was always that big. You used to be wider.

The people of Duskmere

Duskmere's townsfolk moved to the new bodies too: 15 NPC looks covering 54 people. That includes the Wizard who greets every new arrival, the villagers of Lightshire, the stable master, the highwaymen and the fisherman. They walk with a proper stride now, and their cloaks and robes were cut to match.

What it costs your computer

Duskmere 1.0.55's new characters ran at a similar speed to the old ones in our test: 24 players in every armour set on the Lightshire plaza, on a high-end PC at 1280×720. On the WebGL 2 graphics path, frame rate rose from 74 to 112 frames per second. On WebGPU it fell from 173 to 139, still above what most screens can show. A crowd like that uses about 10 to 30% more graphics memory, depending on your settings.

Your first load is larger: about 36 MB of art for a new player, roughly double what it was. Armour only downloads when you first see someone wearing it, so a piece of gear may take a moment to appear the first time. We have not yet tested this on a wide range of phones and older laptops, so please tell us how it runs on yours.

Also in this update

  • Three passive talents gained ranks: Arcane Reserves goes from 3 to 5 (up to +750 mana), and Meditation and Inner Light go from 2 to 4 (regeneration up to ×4). Points you've already spent stay where they are.
  • Skirts are real skirts on the new bodies, and worn leg armour replaces them.

Where this is going

Duskmere's next big step is character creation, built on these new bodies. Existing characters will get the chance to redesign their look when it arrives. No date yet. The bodies came first because everything else stands on them.

Frequently asked questions

Did Duskmere's characters change?
Yes. Since version 1.0.55, on 30 October 2026, every Duskmere player is drawn on a new realistic male or female body, chosen by the character's existing gender. Levels, items, skills and progress are unchanged.
Will my Duskmere armour still work on the new bodies?
Yes. All 12 Duskmere armour sets, all 5 capes and the starter mage set were rebuilt for both new bodies in version 1.0.55. Anything you already own works and keeps its stats.
Can I change my Duskmere character's face?
New players choose from 8 faces, 9 eye colours, 6 brow styles and 8 hair styles when they first design their adventurer. Existing characters keep their skin tone, hair colour and clothes, and their hair moves to the closest new style. They cannot reopen the creator yet.
Does Duskmere have character creation with races and classes?
Not yet. Version 1.0.55 brings the new bodies, animation and armour, and the rest of character creation is being built for a later release. There is no date yet.
What changed in Duskmere's combat in version 1.0.55?
Duskmere's combat rules did not change, only how fights look. Weapons now swing through 2 or 3 different attacks in turn, characters hold a guard stance between swings, blows make them flinch, stagger, block, parry or dodge, and every ability has its own animation. The extra talent ranks are the one rules change.
Did Duskmere's talents change in version 1.0.55?
Yes. Three passive talents gained ranks in version 1.0.55: Arcane Reserves goes from 3 ranks to 5, and Meditation and Inner Light go from 2 ranks to 4. Talent points you have already spent stay where they are.
Is Duskmere still free, with nothing to download?
Yes. Duskmere is a free browser MMORPG that runs in a browser tab with nothing to install. Version 1.0.55's new art makes the game's first load larger: about 36 MB of art for a new player, roughly double what it was.
